Is Your Christmas Tree Pining to be Recycled?
January 03, 2012
Curbside Christmas tree recycling starts January 10, 2012
The City of Edmonton will be collecting natural Christmas trees for recycling.
Residents are asked to place their unbagged tree on its side next to their garbage on Tuesday January 10, 2012. Trees will be picked up for recycling within two weeks, but not necessarily on the resident’s regular waste collection day.
For Christmas trees to be acceptable for composting, all ornaments, tinsel, garlands, nails, screws and tree stands must be removed. Extra large trees should be cut into two-metre (6 foot) lengths.
Apartment and condo residents are asked to take their natural Christmas trees to a community recycling depot until January 20, 2012, or to an Eco Station until January 31, 2012. Christmas trees should not be placed in or beside apartment recycling or waste bins.
The recycled trees will be chipped and composted at the Edmonton Waste Management Centre. Approximately 12,000 trees weighing 151 tonnes were collected for recycling in 2011.
